The biennial event Arte-Polis brings together to Bandung, Indonesia, creative champions from different places around the world, to share and learn from their creative experiences on place-making. Participants come from a diverse range of disciplines, including architecture, landscape architecture and planning, business and management, cultural and development studies, design and visual arts, digital-media and information-communication technology, economics and geography, as well as the arts and humanities. The inaugural Arte-Polis was held between 21-23 July 2006 on the ITB campus in Bandung, Indonesia. The event hailed the theme "Creative Culture and the Making of Place" through an international seminar on Urban Culture, a design workshop on Dago Creative Corridor, an exhibition featuring on Heteropia and 36 Frames, as well as a bazaar offering a Taste of Bandung. Keynote speakers of the 2006 Arte-Polis international seminar were Professor Alexander R. CUTHBERT of the University of New South Wales, Australia, and Professor Dorodjatun KUNTJORO-JAKTI, former Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Republic of Indonesia. On 8-10 August 2008, Arte-Polis 2 highlighted the theme "Creative Communities and the Making of Place: Sharing Creative Experiences". This event consisted of an international conference, design charette and exhibition. Keynote speakers were the renowned Charles LANDRY of Comedia, the United Kingdom, and the distinguished Dr. Mari Elka PANGESTU, Minister for Trade, Republic of Indonesia. Featured Speakers included Prof. Lily KONG of the National University of Singapore, and Prof. Masayuki SASAKI of Osaka City University, Japan. The design charette of Arte-Polis 2 proposed creative interventions for Reclaiming Lost Space under the Pasupati Flyover-Bridge. Both the inaugural Arte-Polis and Arte-Polis 2 were attended by well over 250 participants from 16 countries. Building on the successes of the first two Arte-Polis in 2006 and 2008, Institute of Technology, Bandung (ITB) is pleased to present Arte-Polis 3, consisting of an international conference and national design competition with the theme "Creative Collaboration and the Making of Place: Learning from Shared Creative Experiences". This biennial event is an initiative of the Architecture Program at ITB's School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development in collaboration with other creative institutions, to be held on 22-24 July 2010 in Bandung, Indonesia's city with a long heritage of creative culture, communities and collaborations. The aim of Arte-Polis 3 is to bring together practitioners, academics, artists, community leaders, local government officials, policy-makers and other professionals from diverse disciplines and regions around the world concerned with the quality of life and collaborative nature of creative communities in urban, rural and pastoral places. Its objective is to share and learn from international and local experiences regarding current issues, best practices and policy implications of creative collaboration on place-making.
